From: David McRitchie Subject: Re: Mutual Fund Prices Friday 3/3/00 Date: Monday, March 06, 2000 2:41 PM I do not understand why if Quicken (Q98) can provide the last five days of quotes that it cannot supply quotes for an extended vacation (how about 9 weeks), nor will it fix quotes that it should know that it messed up or never supplied. Perhaps part of the problem is that it wouldn't be good to override corrected prices. You can still get your Friday quotes for Mutual Funds as well as the current stock prices from http://finance.yahoo.com/ After you have entered you list of symbols into your Portfolio you will see Spreadsheet format select that and retain in file. When you create your portfolio all you need are the symbols if you are going to update Quicken. The spreadsheet format is always the same, current price information. In Quicken use Ctrl+Y to obtain list of securities, sort by symbol before printing to a file, and reformat the file so you have only symbols. The market indexes have different symbols than is used in Quicken, so you might use the check boxes in Yahoo. Yahoo has a limit of 200 symbols for a portfolio, if you actually reached that limit you could create more than one portfolio. If you download a spreadsheet file now. You will pick up your Mutual Funds with Friday's dates and prices, since Friday's prices while the market is still open on Monday are the latest Mutual Fund prices. Be sure to save your files so you can rerun your update into Quicken should Quicken mess up your listings later. It really doesn't take much more time to run if you have setup a Portfolio with the symbols you need. Unfortunately you have to obtain the quotes on the same day as you can't get historical quotes for a portfolio, only current prices. You can get historical quotes for a particular stock. Output from Quicken (File --> File Operations --> Import Prices). Only the symbol, price and date are accepted into Quicken even though the same information is available that could go into price history in Quicken. The exported file appears as below.
