Outlook Express:
It is unsafe to use the preview window in Outlook Express and that should
be turned off -- it opens the file.
    View,   Layout,   turn OFF  preview pane

The safe way of viewing is to look at the actual content with
the email selected but before you would view to see if it is
safe or of interest.

Messages on the internet can be harvested by any server that the message
is passed through.   Accessing web sites can reveal your email 
address,  posting to newsgroups can reveal your email address.
Even if you never use your email address hackers get into the databases
where this information is stored.  This includes most ISPs and 
credit card companies in some manner.   Another way are the viruses
which can send every address in your addressbook in an email
that you do not even see go out from your computer.

Under no circumstances  open any file with the following wording
which is one of many  included text messaes in the SirCam virus.
  "'I send you this file in order to have your advice" 


Some of the Outlook Express Shortcuts Many indicate Ctrl+ but are actually Alt+

Control:  Tools --> Message Rules --> Mail 
   Apply this rule after the message arrives Where the message 
   body contains 
         'I send you this file in order to have your advice' 
   Move it to the Deleted Items folder  and mark it as having been read
   You do not want anything to do with such email as it probably

#1 based on From line,  do not download, and do delete from server

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the From line contains 'virtualmarketingsuite.com' or 'china.com' 
Delete it from server 

#1 New Mail Rule,  from people, delete and mark as read

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the From line contains 'virtualmarketingsuite.com' or 'china.com' 
Move it to the Deleted Items folder 
    and Delete it 

#2 Subject, rejections based on words

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the Subject line contains 'refinance' or 'rates!' or 'illion email addresses' or 'financial freedom?' 
Copy it to the Deleted Items folder 
    and Mark it as read 

#4  for your advice

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the From line contains 'Acallejo@bgo.csi.com.ph' 
Move it to the Deleted Items folder 

#4 delete bastards with to: near my name  i.e.  dmcreyn@hotmail.com
(these spammers choose a group of names to spam 
 at the same time and would be many names with 
 email addresses similar to and include  my own emaiil address.)

Where the To line contains 'dmcreyn@hotmail.com' or 'dmcryn' 
Delete it

Blocked senders:  Tools,  Message Rules,  Blocked Senders List (email)
  Unfortunately these addresses have to be specific,  populate
  when they come in  using   Message menu, Block Sender

By Blocking a sender you tell them it is rejected, which may in
itself be use to add to a list of valid email addresses.
Normally spammers ignore or deflect such messages so never see them.

By not download and deleting (two rules) no indication is sent
that message is blocked.  So you may never hear that something
legitimate was blocked.

Replying to email to opt-out is not advised, that will simply
add your name as someone who reads SPAM mail.

Do not reply to opt out of any email that indicates



Do use opt-out  to any web address you have to subscribe to,
so you won't get spam from them, but do it from their site
not from email.
