Firefox as your default browser (#default)

For Windows systems to make Firefox the default browser
Go to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types ...,
assign file types HTM, HTML to the Firefox browser
anything opened in Firefox is going to be processed by Firefox
anything opened in Internet Explorer is going to be processed by IE
then make sure that IE checks itself, so it knows it is not the default browser.

 In Firefox
  Tools, Options, General,
[x] Firefox should check if it is the default browser
     then press [Check Now]
you should get a response "Firefox is already set as your default browser"

 In Internet Explorer
   Tools, Internet Options, Programs (Tab),
[x] Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser

 In Windows Vista
Control Panel, Default Programs, Set Default Programs
Firefox should have all of its defaults (and did when I had a problem)
Control Panel, Default Programs, Set Associations, under protocols
for http: and https: Firefox was not listed inside
Reinstalling Firefox seems to have worked, now listed inside.

Problems (#problems)

If the steps above and article on “Default Browser” in the related area don't help, you might find that it would have been more practical to simply reinstall Firefox, which is safe it does not change your configuration settings, or affect your extensions.
